Abstract
In this article we analyze the consequences of an agricultural model focused on productivity of livestock in terms of acquisition of natural knowledge by the farmer. For this purpose, we choose an area in which these variables are evident, the region of San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa). The article has been preceded by a research that analyzes the role of space in the construction of local knowledge by the farmer. It was focused on the French region of Western Pyrenees, characterized by the dominance of an exploitation supported by the agrological possibilities of its plots in a clearly rural space. The comparison of the results from both regions shows a decrease and simplification of the knowledge by farmers from San Sebastián. It also suggests that productivity models, together with the loss of rurality close to the urban areas, increasingly detaches the farmer from his natural environment.
