Abstract

Fairs and markets legal regulation includes many aspects, both of Public and Private Law. In this paper, after offering an overview of fairs and markets in the different regions of the Empire, it is chronologically analyzed their legal regulation in Roman Law, in order to consider which aspects of the above mentioned regulation were received in Spanish Law, with special reference to the authorization to hold markets, trade confinement to the market place, protection of traders or loss of the privilege, among other aspects, where the reception was more intense..
