Abstract

The Byzantine intervention in the Iberian Peninsula, result of the operations of Justinian's Reconquest, represented the territorial mutilation of de Visigothic Kingdom and the creation of Byzantine province Spania. The organization of Hispanic frontier territories caused the deployment of a military machine –dux and tribunus- that must assume, besides the properly military tasks, jurisdictional duties in the civil and penal sphere. The juridical dimensión of the matter leads us to evaluate the validity of the Justinian's Corpus and the impact of Roman law on Visigothic laws in this controversial period and in this peculiar geographical zone..
