Digital Archive Policy

The journal Aula Abierta implements a series of systematic procedures to guarantee the permanent accessibility of the digital objects housed in its servers, thus ensuring the long-term preservation of its scientific heritage:

  • Implementation of backup copies: Regular backup copies are made of all digital content.
  • Monitoring of the technological environment: A continuous follow-up of the technological evolution is carried out to anticipate and manage possible format migrations or software obsolescence.
  • Generation of digital preservation metadata: Specific metadata standards are applied for digital preservation, facilitating the management and long-term recovery of content.
  • Assignment of the Digital Object Identifier (DOI): Each published digital object receives a DOI, guaranteeing its univocal and persistent identification in the digital environment.
  • Use of the Open Journal Systems (OJS) editorial manager: The journal uses OJS version 3.3.0.13, an open-source software that ensures editorial management and interoperability through its compatibility with the OAI-PMH protocol (Open Archive Initiative-Protocol for Metadata Harvesting). In addition, Aula Abierta has a system of electronic backup and preservation of access to its content through the PKP Preservation Network (PN), guaranteeing the continuity of access in the long term.

Additionally, the journal deposits metadata in national and international repositories, including Dialnet, the Institutional Repository of the University of Oviedo (RUO), and DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), to enhance digital preservation.

Published files are available in widely compatible formats. The digital preservation policy is periodically reviewed by the Publications Service of the University of Oviedo to ensure its ongoing relevance and effectiveness.
