Abstract
The aim of this research article is to examine how reading comprehension in English as a Foreign Language can be improved in primary education through the use of digital tools. It analyzes how the use of digital media influences the development of reading processes and reading proficiency. This article describes the implementation and results of an empirical study conducted in sixth-grade English classrooms that analyzes whether the systematic application of reading activities designed with ICT tools improves reading comprehension in English as a foreign language at the primary education level. The sample consisted of sixth-grade primary education students. The main result obtained is that the systematic use of digital media in reading activities for English as a foreign language leads to improved reading comprehension in this language, with greater improvement observed when the group’s initial score is lower. It is concluded that multimedia teaching should be promoted, utilizing elements that address students’ perceptual and information-processing differences and contribute to the development of new literacies.
